letter requesting Rally co-Sponsorship

Dear _________,
I am writing to ask  _______________________ to co-sponsor the rally in Annapolis to commemorate the 3rd anniversary of the 'Citizens United' Supreme Court decision on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 11 am, to encourage the members of our Maryland Congressional delegation and our General Assembly to work vigorously for an amendment to the U. S.  Constitution to overturn Citizens United v. FEC.
Will ___________________    join us by co-sponsoring this important event?  We believe that democracy in our nation is in grave peril from the threat of big money – and secret money – in politics.  Big money continually thwarts so many of our progressive initiatives.  We want to send a powerful message that money is not speech and corporations are not people.
Thus far, Get Money Out - Maryland, Public Citizen, Inc., Maryland PIRG, Maryland United for Peace and Justice,
Progressive Democrats of America - Maryland are co-sponsors and other groups are expected.

At this event we will demonstrate to members of the General Assembly the broad and strong support for this issue among Marylanders.  As you may know, Senator Jamie Raskin has written a letter to the members of the Maryland delegation to the U. S. Congress asking them to work on a constitutional amendment and to oppose the concept of “corporate personhood.”  At the rally Senator Raskin will update us on his progress in garnering support.
Also, this will be an important opportunity to bring media attention to a real threat to our democracy and to our proposed solution.
If you wish to join us as co-sponsor, please contact Charlie Cooper (charlie.coop@verizon.net, 410-624-6095) or Joe Adams (joeadamsmd@gmail.com, 410-231-3323) by noon on January 10.  We ask that you have a presence at the rally and that you take action to publicize the event.  We have attached a flyer and will add your name to the co-sponsor list in publicity materials.  Thank you for your consideration of this request.

Get Money Out - Maryland works in Maryland to promote a constitutional amendment, fight "corporate personhood," and bring about related reforms to get big money out of politics.
